A bed & breakfast with 6 rooms, built in the early sixties and situated in Altenau, the Harz, Germany. The place is perfect for a long weekend or a couple of days away, unwinding in the cosy and comfortable B&B. The atmosphere is casual and we want to feel our guests at ease.

Altenau
The cosy village of Altenau, with 2400 inhabitants, is situated at an altitude of 500 metres. It is one of the seven mining villages. After the closure of the mines, tourism became the main source of income. All through the year tourists flock to Altenau to enjoy the healthy air and the many wellness opportunities.
De Harz
The Harz area is a hidden jewel in the heart of Germany. Known for its romantic towns and small mountain villages, veiled in a scenery of mountains, deep valleys with rich forests, mysterious caves, clear lakes and waterfalls. The Harz may appear to have fallen into oblivion and might look a bit dated, yet it truly is an area that deserves to be rediscovered.
Wandelen
It is a paradise for hikers and mountainbikers in summer. In winter it is a beautiful area for winter hiking and cross country skiing. From Torfhaus you can follow the 8 km long Goethepad to the highest mountain in the Harz, the Brocken.
Wellness
Traditionally, the Harz is a health resort with a wide range of leisure opportunities. Should you wish to treat yourself to some nice relaxation and get pampered, the Harz offers a great number of places with natural springs and an extensive wellness programme. Whether you are looking for a mud bath, a subterranean spa, a relaxing sauna visit or the Kristall bath in Altenau, all are at your disposal.
Wintersport
Once the first snowflakes fall, the landscape is magically transformed into a fairy-tale picture postcard, offering fantastic winter sports opportunities such as (cross-country) skiing, to be enjoyed by all ages. It is neither the Alps nor Winterberg. Yet its intimacy makes this winter sports area extra special. The Harz offers value for money.

The house has a total of six rooms spread over 2 floors.
Room 1, 2 and 3 on the second floor have a private balcony with seating.
Room 4, 5 and 6 are rooms on the third floor with a beautiful view.
The sanitary facilities are small, but clean.
All rooms have their own toilet and shower.
There is a large relaxation and dining area. In the summer you can enjoy the garden and laze on the grass. In the winter you can enjoy the warmth of the wood-burning stove after a day of cross-country skiing, skiing or snow hiking.
The prices below are from prices, prices can vary if you want to be able to cancel and the number of nights you want to stay, there is a small surcharge for a 1 night stay.

about us
For years I have had the dream to start a B&B and in 2022 this great opportunity came my way and I took over the B&B Orchidee.
My mother thought it was such a good idea that she immediately wanted to come along and together we went sniffing around in Germany and the Harz. We liked what we saw and experienced more and more and that’s why we decided to take on this adventure.
